A left-handed Tribute to the San Diego Roberto's Taco Shop "Dynasty originally published in 1999 on slic.org ".  This file has moved to a couple of other long dead sites before settling here as a legacy project.
June 20, 1999 -- Roberto Robledo, the original and current owner of all the Roberto's Taco Shops died today in Las Vegas at the age of 70 from a heart attack.  (UT article)

"History of List"

This list was originally compiled by Bob Kitzberger (rlk@visicom.com; rlk@pelton.rational.com) and posted to sdnet.eats on November 11, 1992. Bob moved to the Sierra Nevada foothills in early 1993. He told me that he sorely misses the *Bertos Taco Shops down here in Sandy Eggo. Then in July 1994, I fired-up where Bob left off by continuing the compilation work.

I need your help however. If you see a taco shop with a name substantially similar to the bertos suffix which appears to be an obvious knock-off to the Roberto's original and it is not already listed, then please send your sightings to me at my email address below. Naturally, if you actually dine at one of these fine eateries and/or find something which follows the same, knock-off theme, please post your accomplishment in sdnet.eats or send them to me. I will then add it to this page with credit unless you're shy.

 

"Honorable Mention"

The To's restaurant opened in June 1997 and openly honors all the previous *Bertos opened locally in the last 15 years with upgraded dining over the standard *Berto's style fast food atmosphere. A finer tribute than even that no-name restaurant in Del Mar which sports the "Roberto's Special".
