Mazama Bunny Testing
2-4-14:  Now with 125mW output  (9dB less)

I have a T-Hunt transmitter running in test mode in the Mazama area.  Originally it transmitted at 1 watt ERP, but currently it is 125mW ERP.  It is used primarily fo me to test locally for battery, timing, power levels/antenna types and their coverage areas, etc.  It will have different tones, timings, etc while in testing mode and this is not likely to be what is implemented for an actual hunt.

You can play along also if you like even if only to hear what it sounds like and distance coverage with your HT or mobile radios using your normal antennas.  Email if you wish to try to find it.  I am always listening to 146.52 simplex with PL (100.0 encode) if you wish to be sure it's operational or you wish me to turn it on for 90 minutes.

Much more information on T-Hunting on the Forum.

Bunny Details
146.565  Transmits with CTCSS: 110.9 (listens  .6 Mhz down at 145.965 on 110.9)
Antenna 2 meter J-Pole sitting 10 feet above the ground at 2300' (200' HAAT)
TX Power 1 watt output for now to enable longer range casual listening and broader testing
Cycle Approx 1 minute; 15 seconds on, 45 seconds off, CWID'er
145.965
(Control)
Receive and needs CTCSS PL 110.9 and then DTMF; 1 is on, 2 is off. This is standard .6 Mhz negative off-set, simplex only for voice during the 45 seconds of silence
dB Chart Power levels and /or how to get confused very easily

Try listening on 146.565 Mhz while mobile on standard antennas.  Confirmed areas to hear to it are: Lost River, Early Winters, Big Valley and along Hwy 20, Goat Creak and Wolf Creek Roads and many parts of Wintrhop.

You will need to turn it on by Tx'ing .6 Mhz down (145.965 Mhz) with tone of 110.9 and DTMF 1 to turn it on (2 is off).  The bunny will TX  at around 50 second cycles for 90 minutes.

Take a quick check from anywhere including some parts of Winthrop especially if you are well above the valley floor.

Local T-Hunts will begin in the Spring, sponsored by MVARC.  The inaugural hunt will have a dual-band HT for the qualifying winner, a UV-5R.

If you wish to actively play, you might Email me prior just to be sure the bunny is waiting for the hunter.  ;-)

Notes:  noise floor averaged -124 dBm, UHF beam sis not reliable, use a 2m resonant antenna, TDoA antenna very helpful especially very close in, Do not have TX programmed into your DF channel.
