ABOUT ME

I'm Mike.  I've lived in Lakeside, CA for hmmm...30 odd years I guess but in August 2005, I moved to La Mesa.

I just bought a Garmin V in early October 2004 for primary use in driving.  Love that moving map feature.  Caching is a nifty offshoot and lots of fun as you likely already realize.  I'm also a Ham but haven't blended that hobby into this one just yet.  One of my caching buddies gave me an Etrex so I wouldn't need to keep pulling the V off the dash for every cache.

My first find was Fattboy's River's Trail (GCHT01) on October 17, 2004.  Just after a week of rain (no rain for the previous 182 days and I'm out there after .7 inches had fallen that particular day of more than 7 inches in the week).  It was a drive up cache though.  Do intend to try all the types of caches, benchmarks and may work on confluences.  I certainly could benefit from the exercise and this is wonderful nudge in that direction.

My first hide was published 10-26-2004, Cedar Fire 2003, (GCKXQY) and it's matching theme TB Cynthia's Place (GCM0HA) was next, 18 days later and a few more since.  All but the Ebay Auction Mystery Box cache (learn more) are personal theme caches however that Ebay Auction, I believe, is unique to both Ebay and Geocaching.  All my bugs have a theme also.  Obviously, I'm still trying to find my niche in this hobby.  Maybe a clue might be that I had logged only a single find when I made that first hide.  And then I only had only 4 finds when I made my 2nd hide.  50% hide to find ratio indicates I have yet to find this niche (was 15/4, now 62/6).  I tend to cache with friends and don't log the finds as mine.  I'd hope that the quality of my hides  surpasses my meager list of logged caches.  Geocaching is a blast and but for the crunch of time, I would be out there beating the brush now.  Here are my Favorites in GeoBookmark form.

My geocaching pages are primarily to help me keep track of what's up and also are my online geocaching favorites as I may use up to 10 different computers during a typical day.
